Letter from the EFAy President

Dear Member of the European Free Alliance Youth,

Dear All,

My name is Roccu GAROBY, I am 24 and I come from Corsica. I am a member of the Partitu di a Nazione Corsa-Ghjuventù (PNC-Ghjuventù), the youth branch of the Party of the Corsican Nation, a full member of the EFAy. Since the very beginning, I have been involved in the work of PNC-Ghjuventù as a member of the Bureau, responsible for the Economic Committee.

Moreover, since March 2010, I have been working as a Parliamentary assistant to François ALFONSI, the EFA Member of the European Parliament from Corsica (Partitu di a Nazione Corsa). I follow the activities of the Budgetary Affairs Committee and all minority related issues addressed in the European Parliament.

On September 28th, I was elected as the new EFA Youth President. First of all, I would like to thank warmly all EFAy organisations for their support. I think this was a clear message demonstrating our will to work together in a better way in order to promote our common views.

Furthermore, I would like to remind that we, as EFAy, are the only pro-European youth organisation defending the rights of minority peoples and Stateless nations. We should be proud of this and we have to act at European level in order to have our rights fully recognized and respected, as we always do at local, regional and national levels.

Let me be clearer, we do not want anything more than what we should get, we do not claim more than what we should have. We just want the full respect of our identities, cultures, languages and one of the basic democratic rights: “the self determination principle”. We want the full right to live as the youth in Europe.

We want to be respected for who we really are and not for who the others think we should be. Because we are the exact definition of the European Union motto: “United in diversity”. That is why we are right.

Finally, despite a lot of challenges ahead of us, I am sure that if we all work together we will succeed and we will move forward. Our diversity that unites us is our greatest source of strength.

Yours sincerely,

EFAy President
