An overwhelming victory for SNP in the Scottish local elections!

The YSI and the EFAy are delighted that the SNP increased its share of the vote in the local elections last week and now has a record number of councillors – more than any party has ever achieved under the current voting system.  Despite being in the government of Scotland the SNP improved its position in stark contrast to the Coalition government in Westminster, which lost a huge number of seats throughout the UK.

Although this election was not about the independence referendum the SNP continues to be motivated and enthused  about the referendum which will take place in 2014.  With ever greater numbers of councillors the SNP can move towards the referendum with momentum and a clear, positive message.
