International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8 March, calls attention to the fact that women should be treated equally and with respect. The theme of 2015’s celebration is that empowering women empowers humanity. EFAy fully supports the objectives of International Women’s Day.
One of EFAy’s core principles is the right to self-determination: the right for people to decide upon their own future. This right applies to everyone equally. The right to decide also applies to your body; for women, this includes abortion rights for example.
A lot of work remains to be done to ensure that women are treated equally in the workplace. Fair and equal wages have not been achieved in many sectors. For the same work, women should be paid the same as men. Discrimination on the basis of gender is illegal in many places, but this wage inequality remains an important issue to be tackled.
EFAy stands with women and demands equal rights for everyone.
