Young People in Inclusive Societies: EFAy Winter School in Glasgow

This year’s EFAy winter school was held in Glasgow from the 27th February to the 1st of March. Events were co-organised with members of the SNP and Young Scots for Independence on the topic of “Young People in Inclusive Societies”.

Members of EFAy and the YSI attended sessions on:
• BAME Participation in politics with Glasgow SNP Councillor Miche Campbell
• How to support disabled people with the SNP’s equalities Convener Fiona Robertson
• LGBT+ Rights with Finlay McFarlane from Out for Independence the official LGBTQ+ section of the SNP
• The Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) Campaign with Glasgow SNP Councillor Rhiannon Spear
• Prisoners’ rights with Robyn Graham the National Organiser for the YSI

Participants visited the Glasgow City Chambers to learn about local democracy in Scotland and also attended the Scottish Asians for Independence Dinner where they met Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and the Scottish Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf MSP.

It is one of EFAy’s core aims to make our politics as open as possible to everyone from all backgrounds and walks of life. The sessions held at our winter school have encouraged participants to ensure their parties fight for inclusive societies where politics is accessible for all.
